Scope of work:

We performed an inspection and repair on a gearbox JSW GP-450T.


A client from Belgium came to us with this JSW GP-450T gear unit. We reviewed the unit and did a total overhaul. After the overhaul was done, we did a lot of testing and prepared the gear unit to be shipped back to this client.

The general condition of the gearbox is poor.

The input shaft is broken in at the place of. the seals.

Micropitting was observed on the loaded flank of the pinion 2e between the shaft.

A piece has broken out of the hard layer from the outgoing pinion. The axis is also t.p.v. the seals broke in. The hub that is mounted on this axle has also been run in at t.p.v. the seals. A piece of tooth has broken out from the bottom pinion. The axis is also t.p.v. the seals broke in.

Corrosion corrosion has been observed with various bearings. This may indicate worn holes.

The bearing 2nd intermediate pinion pinion side shows traces of turning in the bore.

It is recommended:

- All surfaces that have been run in can be sprayed on with stellite 6. As a result, a clean and good running surface for the seals is created again (input shaft and hub output shaft already done). Which drillings in poor condition are interfering.
- Renew both outgoing pinion shafts (already drawn on the drawing)
- Perform an annual inspection to check whether the micropitting observed on the pinion of the 2nd intermediate shaft is progressive or stable
- Before removing the gearbox, check the alignment of the installation and, if necessary, drill in tension pins if there are no sea-tightening or fitting bolts.
